Flixel Tutorials

If you’ve spent any time at all cruising the internet, you’ve probably seen something made with Flash. Perhaps maybe you’ve played a game made in Flash? Perhaps all you do is play games? Perhaps you’ve dreamed of making games yourself and unleashing them onto the unsuspecting world? That’s good. That’s what I like to hear.

Unfortunately, as with any unfamiliar territory, it can be a bit scary to get started. You may have no idea what to do to get the ball moving, but you’ve come to the right place. It might be confusing at first, but don’t sweat it, we got Adam Saltsman and his Flixel framework on our side.

What is Flixel, you ask?

Flixel is an open source game-making library that is completely free for personal or commercial use. Written entirely in ActionScript 3 by Adam “Atomic” Saltsman, and designed to be used with free development tools, Flixel is easy to learn, extend and customize. Flixel has been used in hundreds of games, including IGF nominees, Adult Swim games, and avant-garde experiments. Many Flixel users make their first game ever in Flixel.
